Wedding Client Turned Boudoir Super Star. POV

Boudoir session FAQ

We don’t always get the chance to work with clients before or after the boudoir session, but as we blend our wedding and event family with our boudoir family, I foresee this happening more and more.

With Alyssa, we had the pleasure of photographing her and her husband’s wedding first. And family photos. And holiday photos. And special announcements photos. And each time there was a familiarity and comfort that felt effortless.

I think for this one my own nerves had me as well. Knowing someone, even in front of the camera, doesn’t always translate into a smoothie progression to a boudoir shoot. I knew that Alyssa would probably be as anxious/nervous/giddy as me, so that helped.

From the styling conversations to the day before prep talk, we were itching to go. It was electric! Boudoir is something Alyssa had wanted to do, but the shoot being the next day just brings out those jitters.

I remember starting, as usual, with “the talk.” This is when I sit down with my client before shooting and explain positioning and facial expressions and remind them that I’ll direct them and to just embrace the moments. Alyssa had had this talk with me before. But “the talk” is different with engagement shoots and bridal sessions. It needed to happen and I think it allowed for separation between previous shoots and this one.

Within 10 minutes of shooting, we were both laughing and at ease and ready to get creative and just “bring on the empowerment.” Confidence grew from both of us as we got comfortable with the posing and the flow of the shoot just kept getting better and better.

Knowing the angles that worked the best, I was able to get more creative with my boudoir set and use the chairs and plants in ways I hadn’t yet. And Alyssa was down for it! She knew my creative process and trusted it entirely.

Again, we knew the limitations and knew the end goal. Working with Alyssa has ALWAYS been amazing, but you could feel her sense of self expand and by the end there was an ease of who she is and what she was doing that screamed HELL YEAH!

A Boudoir Session From The Photographers POV

I picked this review because it’s short and sweet and with the busyness of life and schedules, it fits our typical clients. You’ll see the video review at the bottom for something more in depth, but straight and to the point works 100% of the time. We don’t always have time to write a 3-page essay on why it was amazing to work with someone and ya know, that’s our jam.

A boudoir session was something Cinttia had always wanted to do and we talked by phone and text and she was READY. This was her first boudoir experience and she was understandably a bit apprehensive, but she was excited and ready and from the beginning a willing learner.

I had met Cintthia before by video chat and knew she had tattoos but I had no idea it was related to her profession. I found out quickly through conversation and knew immediately that it was something I wanted to incorporate in the shoot. One joy of photographing sessions is meeting and learning about the client. I’m happily married, but women are truly fascinating and all individually unique. To tattoo your profession on you is a dedication and drive that is beautiful and amazing.

To start, we went with a comfortable outfit and very quickly we moved into more typical “boudoir” attire. Outfit changes are never a forced situation. There’s no structure and we just go with the flow of what is working for each situation. As soon as she was comfortable, she started talking about her “strappy outfit” and was excited. I love when a client gets more and more excited because it means they are starting to feel the empowerment and the excitement is building.

Cintthia ordered lingerie specifically for the shoot. She wanted something for her. Something that took time and appreciation and wasn’t just an outfit provided. She felt GOOD in what she had and it was everything! My thought is, why see yourself in provided outfits and fall in love with it and then not get to wear them again? I used to question providing a client closet or not, and I’m so glad I advocate for your own clothing.

After going thru some instruction on body positioning and facial expression we got into things pretty quick. It’s always interesting to see the expressions a woman gives in different poses and it feels like an insight into who they intimately are as a person. She trusted me to instruct her and get the shot and I learned how she interacted with the camera.

As the session moved along, I could sense that she was ready for the “strappy outfit” she spoke so highly of… At first when she said strappy, I was a guy… There were a bunch of leather straps in the palm of the hand and I said “oh.”  Not because of the “lingerie” but because it wasn’t lacy and was strappy and confusing and somehow that just made it right for her. We had a good joke with it.

The more we worked together, the more relaxed we both got. The natural lighting worked better. The positioning worked better. The flow worked better. It was magical.

In such a dressed down position, once the client realizes I’m there to document their beauty and they can trust that I’m there for art and encouragement you can feel the atmosphere change. It’s almost palpable once they get a few back of the camera sneak peeks and realize I’m not even touching hair without permission or pushing boundaries. It’s electric and encouraging! When she got into it, you could just tell she was feeling it.  Not even just with her expression, but with her body positioning. The back is arched more, she’s warmed up, and you can tell she is pumped!

(I will say we changed positions and she pushed her body… We joked by text the next day about how sore she was LOL.)

We had discussed comfort level and nudity. At the end we did a topless series walking away (we had already discussed where the session could and couldn’t go and I know no front of camera nudity and was 100% great with that). It was the perfect ending to an empowered session and I think we both walked away excited and ready to take on the world.

While I’m writing this I’m looking back thru the session and man, these are so good. Even during the viewing that day (clients come back a short coffee break later to view images and select product images), we were both giddy with excitement. Man, what a day!

Why Boudoir Photography

Why Boudoir Photography?

Why Boudoir Photography

Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I shoot boudoir photography. To me, it is so much more than photos. It’s about self-acceptance, body positivity, and art. It is about getting glammed up and laughing your butt off. It’s about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk in our studio and walk back out that door. It is about feeling beautiful, and that is something I believe every person deserves.

I started shooting boudoir photography because I saw the beauty in everyone that came in our door. I believed I could get any person to see what I see through my camera. Women tell me they feel they can’t look “that beautiful” because they feel too tall or weigh too much or have too many stretch marks. I loved showing them the photos from their shoot and showing that they CAN, in fact, feel beautiful. Seeing their reactions to their pictures changed me.

From that moment on, I knew I had found my passion.

It is now my job to be a mirror for my clients. Not the mirror that the world shows you, but the one who sees past all the lumps, bruises and imperfections. The one that shows you your sparkle.

Why Boudoir

The Transformation

The transformation that takes place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience for us. When a woman arrives in my studio, most of the time she’s nervous (sometimes even visibly nervous). Shaky hands and voices, sweaty hands and faces are things I see all the time.

Once they sit in the chair to get hair and makeup done, the transformation begins. The client slowly starts to shed those signs and feelings of nervousness and anxiousness.

Then the shoot begins. The first series is to get you all warmed up. When I show the client the back of the camera after the first series, I usually hear “OH MY GOD that’s me? No way that’s me!” As we go into the next series and then the next, the laughter and smiles start to come out.

Then she starts to feel sexy. The sexy eyes come out. And you can tell that it’s starting to click with them. The “I am Beautiful” kicks in. By the time we finish the session and go into the reveal, we’re friends. We’ve laughed and shared stories about our lives. We’ve just shared an experience that they will always remember.

Once I show them their pictures on the screen, jaws drop. They see themselves like they never have before. This is one of the amazing things about boudoir photography. I get a chance to show them how I see them, how their spouse sees them and be their mirror. When they walk out that door, they’re smiling so big they can’t wait to tell all their friends about what they just did.

The shift to adore eyes

A little piece of my story

I’ve been a photographer for well over 25 years and have photographed hundreds of weddings, bridals, family sessions, headshots, events and more. And in that time while I was enjoying myself there were always the comments from women trying to play themselves down, not feeling comfortable with themselves, not feeling good in their skin or their outfit.

Time after time, over and over the comments started to really pile up in the back of my head. The next thing you know I’m a girl dad of one, then of two, and my mind started to really be concerned for them and their future self-image. My question became when do we lose our confidence we have as children and where does it go? Why does it go?

It’s not hard to see that we get hit from all directions with all the reasons we should not be happy with ourselves, but what can I do… Then in 2020 I started photographing boudoir sessions.  I knew from my other photo business I needed to get reviews and even better video reviews. So, I would ask them to send me a fast video from their cell before they even left the parking lot, and the results were shocking. I had no clue the power of what I was doing until I asked for the reviews.

The videos I would get back made it all too clear that the need to see one’s self for the amazing individuals we are is more real and important than I had ever thought and I was hooked. Hooked on really making a difference in women lives and hopefully making my girls (future women) proud of what their dad was doing for all these amazing women that choose to trust us with their journey.

My wife, Kristi, is the most amazing partner who has been through the sessions herself and pushes me and encourages me to be the person that makes a difference for our clients and for that I can’t be more grateful.

For me, boudoir photography is a celebration of who you truly are. I take pride in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies, their battles, and the victories they’ve been through. Let me show you your sparkle. Let me help remind you how to love and be proud of yourself.

Eye-opening Boudoir Session FAQ

Boudoir session FAQ

Top 12 Boudoir session FAQ

The thought of a boudoir session can be scary. When talking to women about their session, I get asked all kinds of questions. So I wanted to compile a list of my 12 Boudoir session FAQ to give you some insight on preparing for a boudoir session with me!

Do you share my images?

Our number 1 priority making sure our clients are comfortable, especially with boudoir! It can be a life changing experience, but that also makes it nerve wracking! Sometimes, you are learning how to love your body and you aren’t quite ready to share the images with the world; or sometimes these photos are specifically for your spouse and aren’t for anyone else’s eyes.

These are all great reasons for not sharing your photos, and it all depends on your personal preferences! If there are photos that I would like to share, I will ask your permission first, and only share what you are comfortable with.

Do I have to wear lingerie?

You definitely don’t have to specifically wear lingerie; it depends on your personality! There are a BUNCH of outfit ideas other than lacy little things!

Head over to this blog about choosing outfits to see more ideas

boudoir session FAQ

Do you have payment plans?

To book your shoot, you do have to pay the experience fee upfront. The remaining investment is based on the collection/products you select. We do offer payment plans for your collection! Production time will not begin until you’ve made the full payment, but we would be happy to work with you on a payment structure for the collection you pick. If you are interested in a payment plan, let us know ahead of time so we can be on the same page.

Is hair and makeup included?

Hair and makeup are included in all our boudoir shoots! I think it’s important for you to feel pampered and having your hair and makeup done is a great way to do that! Our amazing team can help you complete your look. Whether that’s “I just woke up like this” or Full on glam! You can bring any ideas you want for your makeup, and we can use it for inspiration!

Do you Photoshop my images?

I do edit your images for light, exposure, and color balance. I do NOT however edit anything out that is permanent! I think it can be damaging to have a boudoir session done, and then edit out parts of yourself that make you who you are! Part of the process of accepting yourself and seeing your beauty also means not photoshopping out parts of yourself you don’t like. If there are parts of yourself that are learning to love and aren’t thrilled about, that is okay! We are skilled in posing and lighting to make you look your absolute best and brings out your shine! (hint, this is where open communication with me is key!)

Where should I buy outfits?

There are a few places to buy outfits from and it depends on what you are getting and the style of your shoot! Here is a long list to choose from with different style and sizing! Victoria’s Secret, Forever2l, Adoreme.com, Torrideberjay.com, Aerieforeveryourslingerie.cahipsandcurves.com.

jasminestaceycollection.co. If you are looking for something specific that you can’t find, let me know and I might know where to get it!

Side note: yours or your significant other’s closet is also a good place to look…

What type of print products do you have?

We offer a variety of albums and luxury glass boxes with prints in them!

“The glass legacy box with the 8xl0 matted prints are my favorite. I absolutely love the feel of picking up a physical print, it’s so surreal to see yourself like that! 20 glorious and glossy pages from the boudoir shoot that I flip through myself every chance I get. I think I look at them more than he does. It’s a daily reminder that my self-image has completely changed after having mv boudoir shoot.” -Alex, on her experience at her boudoir shoot!

Do you offer digitals?

All our packages are built around albums and each image in the album also comes with the digital of that image, but there is also an A La Carte list that you can choose from as well! On this list we have an option to add on extra digital images, phone app, enlargements and more! The digital images are delivered in a locked online gallery for you to download.

I’m freaking out! How can I calm my nerves?

Don’t worry, nerves are all part of the experience! I always say that it would probably be weird if you WEREN’T nervous. The nervousness in the beginning of your shoot makes your moment of “WOW” seeing your photos for the first time that much sweeter!

How many outfits should I bring?

There isn’t a set number of outfits to bring but try not to set the mental expectation that you’ll wear each item you bring. This is where when it comes to number of outfits, less is more. Click here to grab a copy of some recommendations we have for clothing to bring.

Should I get to my shoot early?

You should always plan on getting to your shoot about 10 minutes early so we can talk about your outfits and colors and plan for hair and makeup!

Where is your studio located?

We are located in Webster, Texas (AKA Clear Lake), in an office building on the second floor. 1115 Gemini St #207 Webster TX, 77598. There’s an elevator and stairs and we are just down from both on the second floor. 207

Busting Excuses Why You Deserve a Boudoir Shoot

why you deserve a boudoir shoot

Why You Deserve a Boudoir Experience

When we get nervous, we make excuses. We make excuses not to love ourselves or take care of ourselves. Sometimes life is just busy, we are too crazy at work, or always have to drive someone SOMEWHERE. Sometimes it’s more important to spend time with our spouse. We also use excuses like, “I want to lose 15 lbs first!” And, “I just don’t have the money right now!” I wanted to write this to show you all that no matter the excuse, you CAN do it! Let me show you that no matter the excuse, you are worthy of self-love!

It’s important to remember that if you aren’t taking care of yourself mentally, you’re not going to be able to handle taking care of everyone else, which makes sense but is actually much harder said than done! Sometimes I am the WORST at making sure I am giving myself mental health breaks and that’s why I think it’s so important to share this with you all. I make the same excuses as above and sometimes I need someone to look me in the face and say, “SLOW DOWN, give yourself a break, breath for a minute!”

At a boudoir shoot you are able to breath and love yourself for a few hours. Think of all the energy you’ll save on a daily basis if you stop comparing yourself to others or stop worrying about what other people will think of how you look. You get to see where your beauty really comes from, and this lifts such a huge mental weight.

You need to take time for yourself, why not spend it having an amazing time and getting glammed up?

Excuse: “I’M NOT WHERE I WANT TO BE WEIGHT WISE / I DON’T FIT THE MEDIA’S IDEA OF A GOOD ENOUGH SIZE”

Did you know that the body type portrayed in advertising as the ideal is possessed by only 5% of American females? ONLY FIVE PRECENT.

I will say this over and over again (and sorry, not sorry if you’ve heard me say it before), but WHY do you have to be a certain size to LOVE yourself?  WHY do you have to fit a strangers messed up idea of a perfect body to LOVE your own body? WHY are you comparing your size to everyone else when no 2 women are the same?!

I think it’s amazing to have goals and want to get healthy, but does that mean you have to hate your body to do those things? Absolutely NOT! You should love yourself every step of the way. Be proud of where you’re going. Have a boudoir shoot to celebrate where you are now, and then have one when you lose that 15 lbs to celebrate how far you’ve come!

Excuse: “I NEVER FEEL SEXY OR SENSUAL ANYMORE SO A BOUDOIR SHOOT MUST NOT BE FOR ME”

WRONG.

This excuse is the EXACT reason you SHOULD do a boudoir shoot.

Often we lose touch with femininity or sexuality when life gets crazy because of health/kids/work. It happens a lot and it’s absolutely normal and okay! A great way to find this part of ourselves again is to have a boudoir shoot done to put that spark back in ourselves. I can show you that you have that inside you somewhere, and it might even ignite a spark between you and your spouse as well! (note: not the reason to do a boudoir session, but not a bad possible side effect)

Another thing to remember is that you don’t HAVE to wear super sexy clothing/ lingerie. If you feel this doesn’t show your personality, then there are so many other outfit ideas. If you need ideas, I will gladly talk to you about them, or you can check out our blog on finding outfits here!

Excuse: “A BOUDOIR SHOOT IS AN INVESTMENT AND I DON’T HAVE ALL THE MONEY RIGHT NOW.”

Yes, a boudoir shoot IS a financial investment. But it is also an investment in yourself. You are investing in your well-being and confidence as well! To book your shoot, you do have to pay the experience fee upfront. The remaining investment is based on the collection/products you select. We do offer payment plans for your collection! Production time will not begin until you’ve made the full payment, but we would be happy to work with you on a payment structure for the collection you pick. If you have any questions about our payment plans, shoot us an email while setting up your shoot!

Boudoir Photos Builds Self-Esteem and Confidence

Boudoir Photos

What do you think of when you hear the words boudoir photos? Maybe you think of sexy women in lingerie, strutting their stuff for the camera. Or maybe you think of models with the “perfect” figure, makeup, and hair. Maybe you think I could never do that or I wish that were me.

But boudoir photos are so much more than sensual, intimate photos. It’s about you—learning to love yourself and your body, feeling empowered in your beauty and femininity. No matter what you may think when you look in the mirror, you are strong, sexy, and unique, and your beauty deserves to be celebrated.

See yourself in a completely new light through boudoir photos

Boudoir photos allows you to see yourself and your body from a different perspective. Spending a day getting pampered and strutting your stuff is more than just a good time—it can completely change your self-image. When you stop to see how gorgeous you truly are, you begin to appreciate yourself and your body a little bit more. Plus, you’ll have those stunning images to look back at on days when you’re just not feeling yourself to remind you of how sexy you are.

Show yourself a little more love.

I think we could all admit that we’re a little better at loving others than loving ourselves. But every single one of us deserves love, and you definitely deserve to love yourself. A boudoir shoot can help you feel more confident about the way you look and more comfortable in the skin you’re in. That’s a big deal! As women, we see so many negative images from the media and people around us about what we should and shouldn’t look like. Boudoir photos can help you push away all that talk and learn to better love yourself!

If you’ve considered doing a boudoir session, chances are you’ve thought that you could never look as sexy or confident as the women in those images. But guess what? 10 Ways to Get the Best Boudoir Photography

Boudoir Photography

Every woman wants to feel beautiful, sexy, and stunning. A professional boudoir photography session can give you that feeling, boosting your confidence and letting you feel like a model for a day. Check out these 10 ways you can plan for the perfect boudoir photos to show off your beautiful self.

Find the right photographer.

More than any other type of photo session, a boudoir shoot requires you to choose a photographer you can trust. If you don’t feel comfortable with the person taking your photos, your images will show it. You don’t want to look stiff and awkward, so choose a photographer who can help you relax and feel as beautiful as you are.

Buy something new.

What better way to feel sexy than to dress up in new lingerie? Check out your favorite boutique for some sexy pieces or even go to Victoria’s Secret. With the lower prices, you can pick up more outfits and have more options for your session.

Play some mood music.

Music at your boudoir session will make you feel more comfortable and confident. Take some time to create a playlist of your favorite songs—songs that make you feel strong, sexy, and powerful.

Change your look.

A boudoir shoot is a great time to try something new—a bold makeup look or a wild hairstyle. There’s no one definition of sexy, so feel free to mix things up and embrace your personal beauty.

Practice posing.

It may feel ridiculous, but don’t be afraid to try out some poses before your shoot. Look through your favorite fashion magazines and try to imitate the models. Try arching your back and leaning forward. And above all, leave a little to the imagination.

GETTING MARRIED? LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR ENGAGEMENT & WEDDING SERVICES.

Embrace the nerves.

It’s totally normal and okay to be nervous. Feeling nervous means you’re outside of your comfort zone, which is awesome! And don’t worry about what the photographer sees when they look at you—their job is to make you look gorgeous. They want to capture the best of you, and that’s exactly what they see.

Don’t worry about weight.

You don’t have to lose a few pounds to book a boudoir shoot. Come to your session as you are and let the photographer—and your wardrobe—make you look stunning. Your photographer can give you tips on dressing to suit your body type and will pose you in ways that highlight your beauty.

Be open to possibilities with boudoir photography

A boudoir photography session requires you to do things you don’t normally do and strike poses you may have never even considered. Trust your photographer’s experience and be open to any ideas they have for your session. After all, their job is to make you feel gorgeous.

Drink lots of water and avoid overeating.

If you want to look your best and be comfortable, it’s important to stay hydrated and avoid any foods or drinks that could make you bloat. You also don’t want to eat a big meal before your boudoir session. If you feel overly full, you won’t feel sexy.

Have fun.

Above all, have fun with your boudoir photography session. Relax and let your photographer help you show off your sexy, stunning self!

A gift option many brides don’t think of is boudoir images. These are sensual, classy photos of you, created just for the man you love as a reminder of your affection and devotion. Plus, a boudoir session can be a great way for you to relax and take a day off from wedding planning.

I’ve put together five of my favorite ways to present your man with boudoir images—and it doesn’t just have to be before the wedding! You can give your images as several gifts for the wedding, the honeymoon, and even for anniversaries to come.

A sultry album

One of the best ways to turn your boudoir session into a groom’s gift is to create an album just for him. Of course, this isn’t a gift you want to give him in front of your family and friends, so find a private moment before the ceremony or even after the rehearsal dinner to slip the album into his hands. Just watch his reaction as he flips through the images! Plus, he can keep the album in his nightstand to enjoy…later.

Wall art that will make his jaw drop

I know what you’re thinking: I don’t want a nearly naked photo of myself on the wall of my house!

I’m not suggesting in the living area!

But setting the tone for your bedroom to be a private space for the two of you that is sexy and gorgeous is a great gift! It’s even a great piece to hang in his closet, or yours, to give you that extra dose of confidence every time you walk in.

Teasing prints

A fun way to lead up to the big groom’s gift of an album is to hide prints from your boudoir session in places he’s sure to find them. Sneak a photo into his sock drawer or behind his toothpaste in the cabinet. Then you can give him the full album of photos before the wedding.

A stunning slideshow

Want to make a big impression? Consider doing a slideshow of your boudoir images for after you’re home from the honeymoon. Let the photos play one day when he comes home from work. Then you can meet him in the bedroom, maybe even wearing the same lingerie from your session. That’s sure to make his jaw drop!
