Top 6 ways to prepare for your Boudoir session.

You’ve taken the leap and scheduled your boudoir session! Now what?

Preparing for your session can help you feel more comfortable and enjoy the experience more. Plus, the more at ease you feel, the better your images will be!

Be sure to talk to your photographer about how best to prepare for your boudoir shoot at their studio, but these six tips on how to prepare can help you make the most of your session.

Plan your outfits well in advance.

If you’re planning to wear some items you already have, be sure to try everything on before your session, especially if it’s something you haven’t worn in a few years. And whether everything fits or not, a boudoir session is a great excuse to go shopping! Pick out several looks that make you feel sexy and bring them to your shoot. The more options you have, the better!

Be sure to stay hydrated.

To make sure you look your absolute best in your images, drink plenty of water in the days before and on the day of your session. You should also try to avoid consuming alcohol or salty foods, which can have a negative impact on your complexion. You want your skin looking healthy and fresh!

Refresh your look.

If you regularly dye your hair, consider getting a touchup the week of your boudoir session to make sure your locks look luscious. A boudoir shoot is also the perfect excuse to do a little self-pampering: get a fresh manicure and pedicure and even a wax. These may seem like small details, but they’ll really pop in your images. And if you choose to tan, do so naturally and in the nude to avoid unsightly tan lines or get a professional tanning job. Don’t use any sprays, gels, or lotions that may take away from your natural beauty!

Don’t wear tight clothes to your session.

When choosing an outfit to wear to your session, pick something casual, comfortable, and, most importantly, lose. Tight clothing can leave indentations and lines on your skin that will stand out in photos, so avoid bras, socks, belts, or especially tight jeans or tops. Go for something loose and comfortable, like sweats or a hoodie, that won’t leave any marks on your skin.

Bring plenty of extras.

You’ve invested time and money in looking and feeling gorgeous at your boudoir session. The last thing you want is a rip in your lacy lingerie or a pair of torn fishnets to ruin your day. Make sure you have backup pieces, just in case the worst happens, and save yourself from stressing about a run in your tights.

Relax!

Most importantly, take a deep breath and relax! Have fun with your photo session. Your photographer will do their absolute best to make you comfortable. They’re here to make you feel like the glamorous and gorgeous woman you are, so let them do their job and embrace your most sensual self.

What do I wear for a Boudoir session?

Houston Boudoir

When it comes to boudoir photography, wardrobe is everything. What you wear allows you to show your own personal style and accentuate your favorite parts of your body, but choosing your outfits can be a little overwhelming.

Fortunately, we’ve compiled some suggestions for possible outfits to bring to your session to help you feel sexy and gorgeous.

Bodysuits

A bodysuit is a great choice because they look amazing on almost any body type, and they come in a variety of styles and materials. Go with a high-cut bodysuit to make your legs appear longer or a plunging neckline to highlight your chest.

Bra & panty sets

These sets are often the first choice for many women, especially because they’re often already in your wardrobe.

Push-up bras are great if you feel you need a little boost, but if you’re smaller chest, you want to avoid these bras because they can create an unflattering gap. Bras with underwires are an excellent choice for any size and shape and can offer a little extra support. And if you’re looking for something to add more of a sexy touch, consider a lace or sheer bra.

Panties come in almost any cut and style imaginable. Whether you’re looking for boy shorts, thongs, or something a little lacy, you can find whatever style makes you feel beautiful.

Corsets & bustiers

These pieces are often confused with each other but are actually very different. Corsets are designed to give your waist more definition, while bustiers are focused more on lifting and defining your breasts. Bustiers are often a little shorter, while corsets can add shape but can also make you look smaller or more flat-chested.

Non-lingerie

A classic white dress shirt can go a long way!

Boudoir is more than just lingerie. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident and let your personality shine through in your session. Choosing outfits in addition to lingerie can give you a chance to show off who you are.

Think about what you’re most comfortable in. A cozy sweater? An off-the-shoulder T-shirt? Don’t be afraid to choose something more personal. Comfy is sexy.

Accessories

Small details can add a little extra personal touch to your shoot. Choose a bold statement necklace or sparkly diamond earrings. Even some high heels or small pieces of jewelry can help make your images pop.

And if you’re looking to add a little sexiness, garter belts and stockings are a sultry touch. Garter belts sit at your waistline and have adjustable straps that hang down to your legs to attach to stockings. But even without stockings, this look is stunning.

Avoid bright colors

A bright colored bra and panty set may seem fun, but fluorescent or overly bright colors often don’t show up well in photos. Stick with darker, more sultry colors, like deep blues and purples, and always consider the classic black. And make sure to keep your nail color subtle—bright nails will become the focus of the photos and take attention away from your stellar body.

Whatever you choose to wear for your session, make sure it reflects your personality and shows off what makes you you
